Summary of Achievements

Damian Lyn is the Managing Director leading the management and professional team and heading the company's strategic alliance and initiative development program. In the past seven years he has lead over 200 projects in energy management audit, consolting and solution implementation. He has 27 years of experience in general management, finance, retail management, project management and business and technical consolting and has lead the growth of a successfol retail presence into the JamPearl Group of Companies of which he is the Chief Executive Officer. The group includes: A.D. Tech (Retail and Point-of-Sale Systems and Services); JamPearl Engineering and Construction (Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and General Construction); JamPearl Investments (Property Development and real estate Holdings); JamPearl Limited (Retail and Property Management) and APS Ltd..   1. Managing Director of the leading renewable energy company in Jamaica with over two hundred and fifty (250) installed systems in Jamaica. Our credibility has landed authorized distributorship for Xantrex Technology Inc., Calpak Solar Water Heater, Outback Power Systems Inc., Southwest Wind Power, Bergey Turbines, BP Solar, Power-One Inc., Delta Lightning Arrestors Inc. and Trojan Batteries. Having approximately fifteen years of experience as Managing Director for a technical service company (A.D. Tech Limited), Damian was able to structure Alternative Power Sources Limited (APS) with a financially sound business plan. The above mentioned projects have been managed and in some cases designed by him.
  2. He created and trained the audit and design team in practical consumption audits and energy management forever emphasizing the critical practice of energy management in bringing about the best practices of conservation. System design becomes more economical and efficient if efficiency and conservation in the use of power is continually practiced. Oversees all tender and RFP documents and strategizes with the design team in the preparation of them with a track record to date of an 80% win. We are responsible for the installation of over 30 kW of both PV and Wind systems for the Jamaica Public Service Company at their substations after competitive tendering against two overseas based companies.
  3. Responsible for negotiating with overseas suppliers for the distributorships of their products within Jamaica and the greater Caribbean territory.
  4. Performed and supervised over two hundred (200) energy audits which provided the information needed to advise on proper energy management. This included both residential and commercial with primary focus being on continuous operations such as lighting, refrigeration, heat gain from poorly insulated walls and windows.
  5. Technical Energy Specialist on energy conservation strategies and techniques with emphasis on continued energy management before and after a renewable source of energy is installed.
  6. Evaluated and recommended operation and conservation strategies for 800KVA diesel generator resulting in savings of over J$1,000,000.00 per month for client (Versair Services Limited). Supervised the design and implementation of a battery bank/diesel generator and energy management process for Mystic Mountain, Ocho Rios allowing them to be independent from the national electrical grid. Designed the 8.5 kW PV systems to independently operate the new HR building (2010).
  7. UWI Medical Building - designed the domestic solar water heating system and PV UPS and grid tie to offset the electrical load and provide clean backup power (2010), installation to be completed in 2011. This project is a work in progress at the moment and is being completed by the main contractor, ZDA from China.
  8. Consultant to the United Nations Development Programme on energy efficiency and management for their offices in Kingston, Jamaica. This included an energy audit of the premises with recommendations for implementation of Energy Saving Opportunities and design of PV system (2010). Supervised the foundation works for the installation of a 3KW Skystream wind turbine at Greenwich, New Castle on the slope of a hillside (2009).
  9. Energy Efficiency Specialist on the MEM, EECI program for the public sector (2010) Authored several articles on the topic of renewable energy on a quarterly basis from 2004 to date for the Caribbean Energy Information Systems Magazine which is distributed by the Scientific Research Council of Jamaica throughout the Caribbean to tertiary institutions.

JamPearl Engineering & Construction

  1. Managing Director whose responsibilities include the coordinating of the project team, and the necessary financing arrangements, accounting with budgetary analysis for the profitability of all projects undertaken.
  2. JamPearl Engineering and Construction (JEC) first venture into renewable energy was through the assistance given in the installation of the Munro Wind Turbine some fourteen years ago.
  3. Mr. Lyn’s vision in moving this company forward in the field of renewable energy created a partnership between JEC and Brightlight Solar in 2003. The nature of the business required that energy consumption audits and energy management be key fundamental components in the design of all systems. He conducted audits and advised on energy management with efficiency and conservation, being the two most important functions in the design of any renewable energy system to be installed by the company.
  4. Practical experience in the building contractor’s field spans a total of twenty years to date.
  5. Managed interior renovation of two floors of offices at Oceana Hotel, Kingston including plumbing; air conditioning; electrics; walls etc. valued J$16M and completed within budget. (Main Contractors)
  6. Managed interior renovation of lobby areas and offices at Oceana Hotel, Kingston including decorative doors and trim, electrics, walls etc. valued J$10M, completed within budget and schedule. (Main Contractors)
  7. Responsible for the procurement of raw materials, administrative accounts, and cost management for the Ministry of Agriculture small scale fisheries project. This involved the construction of the three main structures including fish handling facilities, workshop and gearlockers. This project was undertaken by the Jamaican government in collaboration with the Japanese Government to facilitate the fishing industry in Whitehouse, Westmoreland. JamPearl Engineering & Construction was hired as the main subcontractors by Daito Kogyo Co Ltd. of Japan to complete the three main structures and all their necessary interior work as the contractors for the project. The project valued was J$24.5 million dollars, was completed within budget and schedule, a point that was emphasized by the Prime Minister of Jamaica at the opening ceremony.

A.D. TECH Ltd.

  1. Managing Director of the most dynamic point-of-sale company in Jamaica. They are sole authorized distributors of Casio Computer Company Limited, Japan; Digilogic (formally PSC) Penny Lane Software. Specializing in barcode scanning systems for the retail and hospitality markets, they have to date installed more barcode scanning sites than any other point of sale company in Jamaica.
  2. They are also sole authorized distributors for Garvey, USA with respect to their brand of pricing labelers and labels. Other associated products are also within the sole authorized distributorship with companies within United Kingdom, Europe and USA especially as value added retailers.
  3. Damian initiated the buy out of Richard Boor Limited in 2005 and diversified the company’s business into the market of photocopies and office equipment. Along with this venture came the acquisition of the Monroe brand of calculators with a reputation for reliability and also being the oldest brand of calculators in Jamaica.
  4. In 2008, received dealer status for Jamaica from NCR and LOK software and installed the most modern POS system at Michi (Jamaica’s largest and most recent supermarket).

Prime Business Systems Limited

  1. Originally involved as an investor and financial advisor, to become the major shareholder by virtue of a debt to equity swap. Held the position at first as Financial and then that of Managing Director to eventually ownership of the company. Later proceeded to close the company by continuing within the point of sale business through the advent of AD Tech Limited and also by initiating sole authorized distributorship with Casio Computer Company, Japan, Garvey, and a division of Cosco Industries Inc, USA, and other major manufacturers.

  1. Managing and Financial Director of the investment arm of the JamPearl Group with responsibility for planning, market research of both financial instruments and products for sale to the Jamaican market, equity holding, joint ventures and restructuring exercises to increase profitability of each member company.   1. Major shareholder and Managing Director of a company formed to provide investigative, armed and unarmed security specializing in the niche market of the retail trade. The security officers received hand-on training within the Group’s own retail entity allowing closer monitoring to produce a higher quality product.   1. Director responsible for the Company’s building, contracting, metal fabrication and financial affairs.
  2. Prior to Damian’s involvement with AMG Limited, he was contracted by JamPearl Limited in 1988 to manage and supervise the construction of a 15,000 sq.ft three story commercial building (including basement) at 25 Burke Road, Spanish Town. This building was complete and ready for occupancy in seven months. Estimated cost of the building at completion in 1990 was J$2.5 million and a valuation in 2004 determined the value to be in the order of J$ 80 million

Kevin Marston is APS's Technical Director and functions as chief engineer, director of training, research and development and installation. A passion for Photovoltaic systems and renewable energy lead him to Panama where he pursued training and began his career installing PV solutions in remote villages and towns of that country. Over time he developed the reputation for outstanding technical design, configuration and the ability to diagnose and correct virtually any system failure. He has lead the design and configuration of several firsts in PV systems design and implementation in the region including: the first 3-phase hybrid PV/GenSet system (Green Produce Farms, Jamaica) and the rehabilitation of the Vestas 225kW prototype Wind Turbine (Munroe College, Jamaica). He is a recognized technical authority in renewable energy systems and provides technical guidance and support to partners and affiliates across the region. Scott Debenham

Summary Of Experience

Scott Debenham has 25 years of energy industry experience. He has led the development of energy projects covering a variety of technologies including solar, wind, gas turbines, steam turbines and heat recovery equipment. He has extensive experience developing wind energy projects in California and has conducted nationwide and international wind studies. He managed the performance contract for the self-financed energy project at the Federal Prison in Victorville with wind, solar HVAC and controls. Wayne Grant

Summary Of Experience

Wayne Grant is a Mechanical Engineer working with the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) and has worked on and led projects within the Energy Efficiency Unit (EEU) and he currently provides technical support to the Project Team that is responsible for the development and implementation of the national initiative for a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Regasification Terminal and Natural Gas Transmission System on behalf of the Government of Jamaica (GOJ). He has more than 5 years' experience in plant equipment reliability and maintenance. His 4 1/2 years' experience with Jamaica's Municipal Water and Wastewater Company, NWC, included positions as Mechanical Technician within the Operations Department (Water Treatment Plants); Supervisor Maintenance in the Wastewater Department; projects which he has lead include: Clarifloccolator Tank and System rehabilitation at the Constant Spring Water Treatment Plant; electromechanical equipment and systems upgrade at wastewater facilities for the parish of St. Catherine and Clarendon. Mr. Grant has also been working within the energy sector for the last 4 1/2 years with the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica where he has undertaken a number of projects in energy efficiency and has recently received his certification as Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers in the USA. Mark Dennis

Summary Of Experience

Mark Dennis is a recent addition to the APS team and has a mechanical engineering background. His interest in renewables blossomed when he led a team of degree undergrads to develop the islands first solar assisted driven vehicle (SOLCAR) at the University of Technology. He thereafter spent over three years at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica as a Project Engineer developing, designing, consulting on and managing renewable energy projects island wide that covered solar photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind feasibility studies, small scale hydro feasibility studies and wave energy. He has also been integrally involved in energy, analysis, balance and simulations for the island, and policy development where energy is concerned. Mr. Dennis recently received his Certified Energy Manager (CEM) qualification; making him one of the few in the country to certify energy audits to internationally recognized standards. Mr. Dennis is currently pursuing an MSc in Sustainable Energy Management and Technology and he currently holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering.
